The Fallout series is very much a big part of our wider cultural canon right now, mostly thanks to the excellent Prime Video adaptation bringing the franchise to a television audience for the first time. That said, us gamers haven't been particularly well serviced by Bethesda in recent years, with Fallout 76 the only real, ongoing release that players can jump into with regularity.
The older single-player games in the series certainly still have a lot of love and magic to give, but the lack of a Fallout 5 or equivalent project has really begun to run the community the wrong way. Even more frustratingly, we knew very little about even a broad plan for the next sequel moving forward.
Things have started to shift in recent months though, and the latest round of updates has put some positivity back into the overall sentiment towards the series as a whole.
Over on Reddit, one user shared a post confirming the news that new Xbox head Asha Sharma sees both Fallout and The Elder Scrolls as absolute priorities. This includes the revelation that she wants faster development times for both franchises, which can only be good news for those of us who want to play new games.
At the same time, Bethesda has now at least given us concrete confirmation that Fallout 5 is in development, as well as remakes for both New Vegas and Fallout 3. Hopefully, those two elements in combination are enough to ensure that we do at least get something new to play in the Fallout series before too long.
Many of the responses are also astounded at the perceived lack of progress towards the next game in the series, particularly considering its current popularity overall. "Foolish that they haven't done anything to maximize the show's success. Remaking New Vegas during this past season of the show would've done numbers," one comment read.
"It will forever baffle me how they made an entire season of their very popular TV show set in New Vegas and didn’t even have a remaster ready to launch," another added.
The unfortunate fact does remain that we still haven't really heard anything about The Elder Scrolls VI in any meaningful way, and that's first up to the offering block by all accounts. Once we do hear more about that, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that we should at least hear about the Fallout remakes before too long, hopefully to line one of them up with the release of the third season of the show in 2027.
