The Eagle Online to continue operations after founder’s death, family says

The family of Oladotun Oladipo, founder of The Eagle Online, has announced that the digital news platform will continue to operate following his death.

Mr Oladipo died on Tuesday, 25 August.

The family said Mr Oladipo, who established The Eagle Online in 2012, had put measures in place to ensure the continuity of the publication before his death.

“He was deeply passionate about The Eagle Online and regarded it not merely as a business, but as a platform for responsible journalism and public service.

“Dotun had foresight to have put in place some form of a business continuity plan,” the family said in the statement signed by Taiwo Oladipo on behalf of the family.

It said the plan had now been activated and was being refined to ensure that the publication continued in line with its founder’s vision.

The family described Mr Oladipo’s death as a major loss to his relatives, colleagues, readers, advertisers, partners and others who knew him.

It said he devoted a significant part of his life to journalism and worked over the years to build The Eagle Online into a digital publication with a loyal readership and a broad network of advertisers and partners.

According to the family, Mr Oladipo considered the publication more than a business, viewing it as a platform for responsible journalism and public service.

The family also sought to reassure advertisers and commercial partners that their existing relationships with the publication remained important.

“We recognise that many people have invested their trust in The Eagle Online over the years. We do not take that trust for granted,” the family said.

It said its immediate objective was to preserve the legacy Mr Oladipo built while ensuring that the publication continued to develop and serve its readers.

The family appealed to readers, advertisers and partners for continued support as it manages the transition following his death.

It also thanked those who had reached out to the family since Mr Oladipo’s death and asked for prayers and understanding.

“Dotun may have left us, but the work to which he devoted so much of his life will continue. The Eagle Online will continue to fly,” the family said.
