Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening trade and investment relations with Burkina Faso through a proposed bilateral trade agreement aimed at promoting industrial cooperation, cross-border trade and value addition.

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, announced this during the opening ceremony of the 18th International Arts and Crafts Fair of Ouagadougou (SIAO 2026) on Friday, October 30.

Delivering the Guest of Honour address, she highlighted opportunities for the two countries to collaborate in handicrafts, agro-processing, shea, cotton, leather and agricultural value chains.

Ghana, which is participating as Guest of Honour alongside Mali and Niger, is showcasing products from all 16 regions at the fair.

The exhibition features a range of Ghanaian products, including Kente, Adinkra, fugu, Bolgatanga baskets, beads, pottery, leather goods and contemporary fashion.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare disclosed that formal trade between Ghana and Burkina Faso exceeded US$1 billion last year.

She stressed the need to strengthen border management, harmonise product standards and facilitate the movement of goods between the two countries to further expand trade.

The proposed bilateral agreement is expected to provide a framework for advancing cooperation and creating opportunities for businesses in both countries.
