Fire department seeks PSD ruling on salary, pension for officers lost in Nepal glacier disaster

PUTRAJAYA: The Fire and Rescue Department will refer to the Public Service Department (PSD) matters concerning the welfare of two of its officers involved in the flash flood incident in Rasuwa, Nepal, following a glacier collapse in the Himalayan region earlier this month.

Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Seri Nor Hisham Mohammad said the matter included the continuation of salary payments and pension arrangements for the two firefighters involved in the tragedy.

He said they would await further action to determine the arrangements for the salary and pension of one of the officers, Fire and Rescue Department headquarters Planning and Research Division deputy director Mohd Sani Harul, who is scheduled to retire on Sept 23.

"He will be retiring, so the process of continuing his salary and pension arrangements will be referred to PSD to determine whether there is justification for this or otherwise," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after attending the 2026 Public Sector Human Resource Management Conference at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.

Besides Mohd Sani, Fire and Rescue Department Central Region Academy officer Mohd Fakhrul Munir Mohd Isa was also involved in the incident.
