Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed following another early morning fire outbreak at Gezawa Market in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Kabiru Jafaru, confirmed the incident in a statement, a copy of which was made available to The PUNCH on Wednesday.

According to the statement, the incident happened at about 5:15 am on Monday, with four containers and seven temporary shops completely razed.

“Kano State Fire Service received a distress call on Monday morning, 2nd November 2026, from one Ibrahim Sani, who reported a fire outbreak at Gezawa Market at about 5:15 am.

“Upon receiving the distress call, our team promptly mobilised to the scene of the incident and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the market. One shop was involved, alongside four containers and seven temporary shops, all of which were burnt by the fire,” the statement said.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service urged members of the public to observe all necessary safety precautions, particularly now that the harmattan season had set in, to prevent similar incidents.

Recall that an early morning fire outbreak on Saturday, 31st October 2026, destroyed no fewer than 110 buildings and structures at Kofar Ruwa Timber Market in Kano metropolis.

According to the state Fire Service, the inferno razed 75 permanent buildings and 35 temporary structures across different sections of the market.
