Ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli is working on his next grand project ‘Varanasi’ starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead. The movie is set to be a time travelling adventure spread across multiple timelines and continents.

According to the latest report, the team has hired a linguistic expert to create a new language for the film.

Linguist to create language for ‘Varanasi’

A report by Variety India further suggests that the fictional language will appear during one of the time-travel sequences. In the scene, the characters reportedly enter a cave where the walls contain writings in an ancient script. The report further claims that they will then have to understand and learn the language to uncover the mysteries connected to the writings.

This suggests that the fictional language will play an important role in the story.

SS Rajamouli previously created Kiliki

Interestingly, SS Rajamouli has used a fictional language in one of his films earlier. For ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, he worked with lyricist and screenwriter Madhan Karky to create Kiliki, also known as Kilikili. The language which was spoken by the Kalakeya warriors who attacked the Mahishmati kingdom. However, Kiliki was mainly used as a spoken language, with only a brief appearance of its written form.

‘Varanasi’ appears to be taking the idea much further by reportedly creating both a language and a detailed written script.

Plot of ‘Varanasi’

Talking about the film, the large-scale action-adventure is expected to travel across different locations, time periods and settings. Rajamouli has revealed that the narrative moves from Varanasi to Antarctica, Africa and Ancient Rome before returning to its starting point.
