Rita Wilson Details What She's Grateful For 10 Years After Breast Cancer Battle
Chet Hanks, your mother is taking notes for her new look.
Rita Wilson shocked fans after she debuted a massive tattoo across her back, which just so happens to match the elaborate body art sported by her and Tom Hanks’ son.
Indeed, the “Your Mother” singer showed off the impressive ink in a photo shared to Instagram Sept. 20, where she smiled while posing topless, allowing her followers to get a close-up look at the elaborate cross tattoo.
And the reveal seems to mark a new era in the 69-year-old’s creative endeavors.
“STRANGER WITH AGE? Who? Me? I’m lovin’ it!” she captioned the post. “Who else is stranger with age? STRANGER WITH AGE song is out everywhere.”
Though she didn’t share whether the tattoo was permanent, Rita’s friends couldn’t help but react her new appearance.
“Love this!” Reese Witherspoon commented, while Brandi Carlile chimed in, “What an absolute boss.”
And if the ink looks familiar, that’s because her 36-year-old son showed off a near-identical work of art on his back earlier this year.
After all, he showed off the tattoo on social media while vacationing in Colombia back in March before giving fans a better look at the masterpiece in a May 7 Instagram post, where a shirtless Chet showed off his archery skills.
Before unveiling her new look, Rita—also mom to son Truman Hanks, 30, with Tom and stepmom to his kids Colin Hanks, 48, and Elizabeth Ann Hanks, 44, with late ex-wife Samantha Lewes—shared she had a new appreciation for her body 10 years after undergoing a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery in 2015 following her breast cancer diagnosis.

"These parts of your body that had been there for you in such a beautiful way were gone," Rita told People. "I'm very grateful that there are things nowadays in modern medicine like reconstruction and implants."
"In my mom's generation, if you had breast cancer, that was it,” she explained. "There was nothing. You were left with sort of a shadow."
That’s why she’s not ashamed to own the medical advances available to her.
"I like to say that I've finally gone Hollywood now,” she joked, "and I have some in place."
And while the Now and Then actress has been in remission for over a decade, she marvels at the strength her body had throughout the difficult chapter.
"It was interesting to look at my body in that way and see it, understand what is missing," she explained, "but also [see] what my body could do to keep me healing and healthy and have that appreciation."
