Rahul Bhatt has opened up about how life changed for him after his parents, Mahesh Bhatt and Kiran, went their separate ways. He said his father's absence shaped their relationship for years to come, and that he felt pushed to take charge of the household as a young boy.

In a conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Rahul spoke about his bond with Mahesh Bhatt, calling it a "fractured relationship" and saying he often felt overlooked as a child. He said, "I had to be my own father. My father was there, but he was not there. He has been a little indifferent to me for reasons he knows best. I love my father, I respect him, but I am not my father. It's a fractured relationship."Rahul said his parents' separation and Mahesh Bhatt's absence forced him to grow up differently, as he saw himself as the "head of the household" while his father was away.

He also opened up about the mood at home during that time, saying his mother Kiran was unhappy and that the family barely communicated. "My mother used to be unhappy. She used to be at home. There was a lot of negativity. Nobody was interested. There was no communication.

It was dysfunctionality. He is a great guy. I respect him. He takes care of my mother. I respect that also. Whenever there is a financial crisis, he is there.

I can lead a luxurious life in that sense. I am not the breadwinner. My father pays for household expenses."

Even while calling his childhood "f****d up," Rahul made it clear that his view of Mahesh Bhatt isn't shaped only by their painful past. He described his father as a "great guy" and admitted that Mahesh has continued to look after Kiran and support the family financially.
