EXCLUSIVE: Following the film’s premiere at Screamfest, Cineverse has beaten out rivals to The Night Driver, starring Josh Lucas, Alyssa Milano and David Arquette.

Terrifier outfit Cineverse acquired North American rights to the film from VMI International. Also appearing are Charlotte Kirk, Elieen Deetz, Danielle Vasinova, Gina La Piana.

The film “follows Hurdis Matheson (Lucas) a traveling pharmaceutical salesman who is desperate to return home to his wife Cheryl (Milano) and family after surviving a run-in with a psychotic killer, only to be stalked relentlessly by him across the country and framed for several murders along the way. The police are on a nationwide manhunt for Hurdis, and it is up to Detective Granger (Arquette) to prove Hurdis’ innocence.”

Jeremy Weiss’ directorial debut heralds from veteran producing team Andre Relis, Jib Polhemus and Jessica Russo.

John Cork’s screenplay was also published as a graphic novel by the same name. Financing came from Bondit Media Capital.

Sean S. Cunningham, creative force behind the Friday 13th franchise, is serving as executive producer along with Matthew Helderman, Grady Craig, Luke Taylor, Daniel Pike, Kevin Glynn, BJ Hendricks and James Rundquist.

The deal was negotiated by Jessica Russo, COO Productions and Acquisitions at VMI and Dan Fisher Vice President of Acquisitions of Cineverse.

Andre Relis, CEO of VMI Worldwide, said: “Cineverse has established itself as a leading force in the horror space, and we’re thrilled to partner with them on The Night Driver. Their proven track record with films like the Terrifier franchise and their deep understanding of the genre make them an ideal partner to bring the film to horror audiences.”

Cineverse added: “The Night Driver is reminiscent of horror classics like The Hitcher, delivering a relentless sense of suspense that keeps audiences on edge from start to finish. Josh Lucas gives a gripping performance as Hurdis, taking viewers on a thrilling and unpredictable ride where danger—and murder—waits around every turn. At Cineverse, we’re passionate about championing emerging filmmakers, and Jeremy has delivered an impressive debut that we believe will keep audiences fully engaged until the very end.”
