Crews cool three blocks after Ciremai wildfire contained

Kuningan, W Java (ANTARA) - A joint team battling forest and land fires is focusing on cooling operations in three blocks of Mount Ciremai National Park in West Java’s Kuningan District after no active hotspots were detected on Saturday.
Kuningan District Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Indra Bayu said crews were targeting residual heat because thin smoke was still visible in several locations.
“The situation is under control. We will continue thorough cooling operations until the smoke disappears,” Indra said in a statement on Saturday.
The three priority areas for cooling and mop-up operations are Bintangot, Karang Dinding, and Bukit Seribu Bintang, all within the park in Kuningan District.
Drone surveillance by park officials and Sipongi, the forest and land fire monitoring system, detected no hotspots through Saturday night, prompting crews to continue cooling operations.
Earlier, aerial monitoring of Grid 15 in the park detected hotspots at the foot of Mount Dulang and south of the Karang Dinding monitoring post, about 1.4 kilometers away.
The findings prompted cooling operations, including in Panyusupan Block, while crews continued monitoring conditions through aerial surveillance and field inspections, Indra said.
The response included manual cooling with firefighting equipment, including jet-shooter sprayers, and drone patrols to track smoke distribution and check conditions in affected areas.
A shortage of vehicles to transport personnel, steep terrain, and burned land requiring extra caution were among the challenges facing the firefighting teams.
“For Sunday, October 25, the joint team plans to monitor smoke and conduct cooling operations in Grid 15, weather modification by the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), and water-bombing support from the Indonesian Air Force,” Indra said.
The agency was also continuing health services, logistics support, volunteer data collection, and hotspot monitoring through Sipongi to ensure conditions remained under control.
“Cooling operations will continue until the smoke disappears and we confirm that no hotspots have re-emerged in Mount Ciremai National Park,” Indra said.
