Scrubs star Zach Braff gives reboot update - and fans may be disappointed

Scrubs fans were overjoyed earlier this year when the beloved medical sitcom was revived with a brand-new season, but they may be disappointed to learn that an iconic character may not be coming back for the next chapter of the reboot.

Though stars such as Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke and Donald Faison reprised their respective roles, one notable absentee was Ken Jenkins's Dr Bob Kelso, but it was assumed that he would make a comeback at some point.

Series creator Bill Lawrence and showrunner Aseem Batra have both previously stated that Jenkins would return to the role in some capacity for the second season of the revival, though that looks unlikely at this present moment.

Speaking to Deadline alongside Chalke and Faison, Braff explained: "The fans want this so much, and I so respect that, we do too, but I think we just also need to be respectful of his [Jenkins's] age."

"I'll keep trying, but I think, for currently where he's at, it's a bit of a big ask, I'll just say that," added the star, who also serves as an executive producer in addition to his starring role as JD.

Though Jenkins may not appear, the second season of the reboot is bringing back John C McGinley, Judy Reyes, Neil Flynn, Krista Miller and Robert Maschio. Scott Foley, meanwhile, will be reprising his role as Sean Kelly.

The revival retconned the events of the sitcom's ninth season, with the action picking up as JD and the gang lead a new generation of medical interns and professionals at the Sacred Heart Hospital

"We all find the story of all of his mentees rallying around to cure and treat him really interesting and something we want to continue," said Braff, who also narrates the popular series.

"We want to keep Dr Cox, Johnny C around, and we'll continue to do that in different ways because the audience loves him, and we love him, and he's such a valuable part of the show."

"This season is about us navigating being teachers, being the leads of the hospital, and passing down our knowledge. We’re navigating dating new people while being co-workers, and Turk's battling some struggles with his mental health," he added.
