Shūichi Shigeno's Subaru and Subaru Manga Goes on Break Until October 26
This year's 43rd issue of Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine announced on Friday that Shūichi Shigeno's Subaru and Subaru (Subaru to Subaru) manga will take a break and will return in the magazine's 48th issue on October 26.
Kodansha USA Publishing licensed the manga, and will release the first compiled book volume in English on April 6, 2027. Kodansha USA describes the story:
One year after Takumi Fujiwara's student Kanata Rivington tore it up on Japan's mega-popular MFG street racing circuit, two new drivers are itching to try their luck at the event. Their names: Subaru Sato from Gunma Prefecture, and Subaru Kudo, from Kanagawa. The world of Initial D and MF Ghost meld into one as these two Subarus join together to weave the ultimate street racing legend!
Shigeno launched the manga in Weekly Young Magazine in July 2025. The manga continues the shared storyline of Shigeno's Initial D and MF Ghost manga.
Shigeno launched his Initial D manga in Young Magazine in 1995 and ended it in July 2013. Tokyopop published the beginning of that manga in North America, and Kodansha Comics and Comixology are offering the complete manga in English. The manga inspired several television anime series, a live-action film, several original video anime projects, and a successful game line. The manga inspired a 2001 anime film and a trilogy of anime films, the third of which opened in February 2016.
Shigeno launched the MF Ghost manga in Young Magazine in September 2017, and ended it in February 2025. The 23rd and final compiled book volume shipped in Japan in June 2025. Kodansha USA Publishing is releasing the manga in English.
The first season of MF Ghost's anime adaptation premiered in October 2023. Crunchyroll streamed the season as it aired in Japan. The second season debuted on October 6, and Crunchyroll is also streaming the season with English subtitles and an English dub. The third season debuted on January 1. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired, and also streams an English dub. The anime will get a fourth and final season.
