NRD rolls out new generation MyKad nationwide today

KUALA LUMPUR: The public can replace their existing identity cards with the new-generation MyKad from today at all National Registration Department (NRD) branches nationwide.

According to the frequently asked questions (FAQ) section on the department's official website, applicants at 40 selected branches equipped with on-site printing facilities can receive their new MyKad on the same day.

The facilities are available at selected NRD branches and Urban Transformation Centres (UTCs) nationwide.

For NRD branches without printing facilities, the new-generation MyKad will be ready within five working days.

The Touch 'n Go function is no longer available on the new MyKad. However, users can continue using the service through the Touch 'n Go eWallet app or a separate Touch 'n Go card.

Replacing the identity card will not affect recipients' Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) balance or eligibility.

Sara records can still be checked through the Sara system, including the Sara portal at www.sara.gov.my, or through official MyKasih channels.

The new MyKad can also continue to be used for government aid or subsidies that use the identity card as a means of verification or redemption, subject to the eligibility requirements set by the relevant agencies.

The issuance of the new MyKad will not change the identity card number or personal information recorded on the existing MyKad.

The new card remains an official identity document for Malaysians and can be used for government-related transactions.

For banking and other services, the implementation of the new MyKad takes into account the requirements of systems and services that use the card, with the necessary adjustments to be made gradually in collaboration with relevant parties.

The fee for replacing the MyKad is subject to the application category and rates set by the NRD.

Members of the public do not need to head to the NRD solely to exchange their existing MyKad, and replacements can be made following standard NRD procedures.

Applicants are encouraged to make an appointment in advance via www.mytemujanji.jpn.gov.my to facilitate counter transactions.
