Vice President Sara Duterte on Tuesday said she is open to undergoing a lie detector test amid claims that she received suitcases containing cash, as long as dismissed policeman Rodulfo Gracioso Jr. will reveal his results to the public.
“Wala akong problema sa lie detector test pero ipakita muna nila ‘yung public na lie detector test ni Gracioso,” Duterte said in a press briefing.
(I have no problem with a lie detector test, but they should first show the public the lie detector test of Gracioso.)
“Kasi ang nagke-claim lang naman na pumasa siya sa lie detector test is si Gracioso mismo,” she added.
(Because the only one claiming that he passed the lie detector test is Gracioso himself.)
Gracioso previously alleged that he delivered cash to the vice president, Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte, and former President Rodrigo Duterte on former House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco’s instructions.
Prior to the issuance of his affidavit, National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag said Gracioso underwent a lie detector test.
He added that Gracioso passed 99% of that test.
After his affidavit, Gracioso took a second lie detector test with the NBI.
Velasco’s camp previously said the allegations against him had “no basis.”
Affidavit
The Vice President on Tuesday again denied claims made by Gracioso and read her affidavit answering his allegations, which she said her camp will submit to authorities on Thursday, October 8.
“Mariin kong tinatanggi ang mga pahayag ni Rodulfo Mondigo Gracioso Jr. sa kanyang sinumpaang salaysay at mga panayam sa media na inuugnay ako sa mga pangyayaring hindi ko ginawa, hindi ko nalalaman, o hindi ko personal na naranasan,” she said in a press briefing.
(I strongly deny the statements made by Rodulfo Mondigo Gracioso Jr. in his sworn affidavit and media interviews linking me to events that I did not commit, did not know about, or did not personally experience.)
Amid photos shown by Gracioso with the vice president, Duterte said that Gracioso cannot directly go to her due to the security of the Presidential Security Group (PSG).
She said that from July 2016 to June 2022, the PSG served as her security personnel.
“Hindi kailanman nangyari na ako ay sinundo ni Gracioso sa isang private hangar sa Pasay, sumakay sa isang Ford Savanna White na artista van at hinatid sa Diamond Hotel,” she said.
(Never was I fetched by Gracioso at a private hangar in Pasay, [never did I] ride a Ford Savanna White which is an artista van and [never was I] was brought to Diamond Hotel.)
Duterte also denied that former Davao City chief information officer Jefry Tupas, who Gracioso claimed received cash on her behalf, was her personal aide.
“Hindi ko katiwala, assistant, or personal staff si Tupas. Naniniwala ako na kaya si Tupas ang pinili ni Gracioso na isali sa kasinungalingan ay dahil akala ni Gracioso na si Tupas ay isang sunod-sunodan o lackey na bakla dahil nakikita niya na magkaibigan kami at uma-attend siya sa mga events ko,” she said.
(Tupas is not my caretaker, assistant, or personal staff. I believe Gracioso chose to include Tupas in the lies because Gracioso thought that Tupas was a follower or gay lackey because he saw that we were friends and that he attended my events.) —VAL, GMA News
