Air Force deploys 5 helicopters to tackle Nusantara, Java wildfires

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Air Force (TNI AU) has deployed five helicopters to support ongoing wildfire containment efforts in several regions, including Nusantara, Indonesia's future capital under development in East Kalimantan.
"There are five helicopters available for aerial firefighting, aerial patrols, hotspot monitoring, and personnel transport to fire-affected areas that are difficult to access by land," Head of the TNI AU Information Service Air Commodore Feri Yunaldi said.
Speaking to ANTARA in Jakarta on Thursday, he said preparations for the aircraft had been underway over the past few days.
Yunaldi added that the helicopters had been deployed to several locations, including Nusantara, Mount Ciremai in West Java, Mount Lawu in Central Java, and the Galuga Final Waste Processing Site in West Java.
Without specifying the number deployed to each location, he said the TNI AU had mobilized H225M Caracal helicopters from Air Squadron 8 to Nusantara and Mount Ciremai to conduct aerial patrols and water-bombing operations in areas affected by forest and land fires.
The helicopters can carry water buckets with a capacity of up to 2,000 liters to help accelerate firefighting efforts in areas with limited ground access.
Meanwhile, Air Squadron 6 has readied NAS-332 Super Puma helicopters to conduct similar operations on Mount Lawu. The helicopters can release up to 4,000 liters of water per sortie to help contain fires.
"NAS-332 Super Puma helicopters are also supporting firefighting efforts at the Galuga landfill in Bogor District, West Java, by dropping approximately 54,000 liters of water through 18 releases over two sorties," Yunaldi added.
He further stated that the helicopters remain engaged in firefighting operations and will continue assisting efforts to contain fires in affected regions.
