Make explanation on TuJu glitches public, says MP

Translate

An MP has called for an explanation on the glitches surrounding the TuJu navigation application to be made public following a government statement that the Malaysian Highway Authority’s (LLM) top management must be held accountable if misleading information was provided about its capabilities.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, in welcoming the statement by government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil, urged the works ministry to instruct LLM to provide a written explanation, supported by evidence, within seven days.

Lim said the explanation should detail any briefing given to the prime minister, the selection of Prosignal Consortium Sdn Bhd to jointly develop the app, potential conflicts of interest, the security of user data, and any financial liabilities incurred by LLM.

“This explanation must be made public so the people can judge for themselves. Only information that is strictly confidential should be excluded.

“If serious negligence or misconduct is proven, firm action must be taken,” he said in a statement this morning.

He said subordinates should not be punished if the decisions were made by the top management.

Yesterday, Fahmi was quoted as saying that LLM must take responsibility for what was communicated.

“In my view, if any inaccurate information was presented, the senior management of the organisation concerned must be held accountable.

“That is the government’s position. They must be made to account for whatever advice or information provided,” he said, according to media reports.

Prosignal had said previously that it was working on restoring and improving the app’s navigation functions following disruptions flagged by users.

It said the restoration and improvement work was targeted for completion by Nov 6.

App users had been encouraged to switch to TuJu after the government banned civil servants from using Waze because of security concerns.
