Julio Peña Set For Third Lead Role In Amazon MGM Romance ‘Throttled’

Julio Peña, the Spanish actor from Netflix’s teen romantic drama trilogy Through My Window, is set for the third starring role in the new Amazon MGM romance Throttled. He joins previously announced Josh Heuston and Nicole Wallace.

Based on the first book in Lauren Asher’s Dirty Air series, Throttled centers on Wallace’s Maya Alatorre, an ambitious woman who joins her older brother on the Formula One racing circuit and falls into a forbidden, high-stakes romance with his ruthless teammate and fiercest racing rival, Noah Slade (Heuston).

Peña plays the brother character, Santi Alatorre.

Nzingha Stewart is directing Throttled from a script by Melissa Osborne. Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are producing along with Ethea Entertainment’s Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, as well as Garrett Grant. Alison Small of Brownstone and Asher are exec producing. Amazon MGM announced its acquisition of the project for streaming earlier this month.

Peña’s Netflix trilogy Through My Window is based on the Hidalgo Brothers book series by Ariana Godoy; its first installment logged 68 million views in its first two weeks on the streamer in February 2022. Last year, the actor was seen starring in The Captive, a 16th century drama from director Alejandro Amenábar that premiered at TIFF. He’s also been seen starring in the Money Heist spinoff Berlin and will be seen coming up in the untitled Meta series based on A24’s breakout horror film Talk to Me.

Based in Madrid, he’s repped by Anonymous Content, YouRock Talent Partners, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
