Radda signs Katsina’s ₦828.58bn 2027 budget into law

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda on Wednesday signed the state’s N828.58 billion budget for 2027 into law.
The governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Mohammed, disclosed this in a statement issued on 30 September.
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, said the approved budget comprises N637.85 billion for capital expenditure and N190.73 billion for recurrent spending. The allocations represent 76.98 per cent and 23.02 per cent of the total, respectively.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Radda said the budget reflected priorities identified during consultations across the state’s 361 wards in its 34 local government areas.
He said its preparation involved gathering residents’ requests, reviewing proposals submitted by ministries and agencies, and legislative scrutiny.
The governor commended lawmakers for the early passage of the bill and directed implementing agencies to ensure timely execution of projects and programmes.
The announced total is N60 million lower than the N828,638,844,091.48 proposal approved by the executive council in August. The statement announcing the signing did not explain the difference.
Implementation remains a key issue following the state’s spending record under the current budget.
PREMIUM TIMES previously reported that Katsina had spent N193.02 billion, representing 26.57 per cent of its N726.30 billion capital allocation for 2026, as of 28 August. Overall expenditure stood at N295.19 billion, or 32.88 per cent of the approved budget.
At the presentation of the 2027 proposal, Mr Radda said he expected expenditure to rise in the remaining months of 2026 as ongoing projects reached completion.
The statement on Wednesday’s signing did not provide an updated figure for the implementation of the 2026 budget.
