‘The Great British Bake Off’ Host Alison Hammond Has Heart Check After Health Scare Live On TV

Alison Hammond has revealed that she went to hospital to have tests done on her heart after suffering a health scare midway through presenting This Morning on ITV.

The Great British Bake Off co-host posted an Instagram Story from her hospital bed on Friday, in which she told fans that she was “fine” but was having “my old ticker checked out.”

Hammond said she may have suffered a palpitation or panic attack while she was live on television, meaning she had to leave the This Morning studio.

“I know you’re all worried about me,” she said. “Honestly, I am fine, first of all. I’m getting my old ticker checked out. I had a little bit of a palpitation, and now I’m getting it all checked out. But I think I’m okay. I’m hoping it was just a little panic attack or something like that. I love you all.

“I’m so sorry I left you. I would never normally do that. I would never leave a TV show, but so you know, I wasn’t very well. But hopefully I’m going to be all right. The doctors are so lovely, and they’re checking me out, and hopefully everything’s going to be fine.”

Hammond and This Morning co-host Dermot O’Leary were presenting a segment about pets when the incident happened. Hammond left the studio, with O’Leary telling viewers after an ad break: “Welcome back to This Morning, Alison is feeling a little unwell, so she’s just had to duck out. Hopefully she’ll be back.”

Alison Hammond joined the This Morning team in 2003 after originally rising to fame on Big Brother in 2002. She has gone on to become one of the UK’s most beloved TV stars, hosting Bake Off with Noel Fielding since 2023. Hammond is also known for her viral interviews, including her 2017 sit-down with Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford for Blade Runner 2049.

Signing off her Instagram message to fans on Friday, she said: “Look, I’m rocking it. Look how good I look. Still got my makeup on from This Morning. Lush. Love you, babs.”
