EXCLUSIVE: Pierce Brosnan says MobLand season 3 is already gearing up.
The two-time Golden Globe nominee stars in the Guy Ritchie-produced crime drama as Conrad Harrigan, the patriarch of the Harrigan crime family in London who frequently finds his power threatened by both internal and external forces, turning to right-hand man and fixer Harry Da Souza (Tom Hardy) to maintain peace in town. All the while, Conrad's wife and Harrigan family matriarch, Helen Mirren's Maeve, frequently stokes the fire in the hopes of pushing Conrad to go to war with rival families.
MobLand season 2 picks up sometime after the events of season 1, in which the Harrigans successfully wiped out the rival Stevenson family, but have since begun to splinter as Paddy Considine's Kevin, having learned of Conrad being the true father to his son Eddie, gearing up for a civil war with his father. Meanwhile, Conrad is diagnosed with a degenerative mental condition and must grapple with his new status as two dangerous new threats begin to come for the Harrigan family's power.
Ahead of season 2's premiere, ScreenRant's Grant Hermanns interviewed Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren to discuss MobLand season 2. When asked about both of their characters' arcs in the new season, Brosnan went on to reveal that MobLand season 3 will officially begin filming in November, confessing that they "have no idea where the storyline is going." However, as he and his Oscar-winning co-star acknowledged, there's also a benefit to being in the dark for showrunner Jez Butterworth's plans:
Pierce Brosnan: I don't talk to Jez Butterworth. I haven't spoken to him about Conrad's character, and I didn't even at the beginning of season 1.
Helen Mirren: It's always better to let an artist do what they think and what they want, I've always felt. You never want to control what they're doing, especially with writers, I think it's really important.
The future went from looking dim to bright for MobLand after reports swirled of Tom Hardy either exiting or being fired from the series amid creative differences, only for him and the creative team to get back to an admirable place and signing a new deal, alongside Brosnan and Mirren. Paramount+ subsequently greenlit the show's third season at the top of September, over two weeks ahead of season 2's debut.
More notably, Brosnan's confirmation that MobLand season 3 will begin filming in November comes after reports indicated that the show would return to filming before the end of the year, an impressive turnaround from renewal to filming considering the star-studded roster and their busy dockets. Previously, there had been a five-month gap between season 2's renewal and when production began for the season, with filming eventually wrapping this past March.
