Ranger shifts to 2027: Ajay Devgn film eyes post-Eid window

Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt starrer ‘Ranger’ moves out of December 2026 release roster, leaves Shraddha Kapoor's ‘Eetha’ to clash with Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan’s film

Ajay Devgn’s upcoming jungle adventure ‘Ranger’, which was earlier scheduled to release on December 4, is reportedly moving out of its 2026 release calendar. The film, which stars Devgn alongside Sanjay Dutt and Tamannaah Bhatia, is now expected to arrive in 2027, reportedly after Eid. With ‘Ranger’ vacating the December date, the untitled comic caper starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna is set to face Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’ around the same period.

‘Ranger’ to release after Eid in 2027

According to Bollywood Hungama, ‘Ranger’ has been pushed from its earlier December 4 release date to 2027. The film is expected to arrive after Eid, which falls in March next year, potentially positioning it as a summer release. The new release window could also work well for the film given its jungle adventure setting. With school and college holidays following the festive period, the makers could be looking at a wider audience for the Ajay Devgn-led action adventure.

The film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Tamannaah Bhatia in pivotal roles.

‘Eetha’ to face Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan’s comic caper

With ‘Ranger’ moving out of December 4, the date is now expected to feature the untitled comic caper starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan and Raashii Khanna. The film is directed by Anees Bazmee and is set to clash with Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘Eetha’. The December box-office picture could become even more crowded if reports about Prabhas’ period action drama ‘Fauzi’ releasing around December 3 materialise.

However, ‘Fauzi’ has also been linked to a possible postponement to 2027, meaning the final December line-up could undergo further changes.

What is Ajay Devgn’s ‘Ranger’ about?

‘Ranger’ is reportedly set against the backdrop of wildlife conservation and the fight against poaching. According to an August report by Mid-Day, Ajay Devgn plays a forest officer who is determined to protect tigers while dealing with an inefficient team, corrupt seniors and a ruthless poaching gang.

Sanjay Dutt reportedly plays the antagonist who leads the poaching operation, setting up a conflict between Devgn’s forest officer and the criminal network.

The film’s climax was shot in Mumbai last month. The makers are also expected to film a special dance sequence featuring Tamannaah Bhatia and Ajay Devgn.

Ajay Devgn’s 2026 line-up now limited to two films

With ‘Ranger’ moving to 2027, Ajay Devgn’s theatrical slate for 2026 is now set to comprise two releases. His next major release is ‘Drishyam The Conclusion’, scheduled to hit theatres on October 2. The film follows the success of ‘Dhamaal 4’, which marked Devgn’s other major theatrical release of the year. Meanwhile, ‘Ranger’ will continue its production work before targeting its new post-Eid 2027 release window.

The film’s eventual release date is expected to be announced once the makers finalise the new schedule.
