Daily Snow Report: this streak isn’t done yet

Translate

Tuesday, 18 August’s Daily Snow Report shows the settled spell holding for a second straight day, with SAWS issuing no impact-based warnings, fire danger warnings or advisories anywhere in the country.

It’s a continuation of Monday’s genuinely quiet pattern, with temperatures pushing higher than they have in weeks across the central and eastern parts of the country.

REMEMBER | Daily Snow Report: the warnings finally stop

Fine and warm conditions continue across most provinces

Gauteng can expect a fine and warm day.

Mpumalanga stays fine and warm.

Limpopo sees fine and warm weather too.

The North West can expect fine, warm conditions.

The Free State stays fine, but cool to warm.

The Northern Cape starts with fog patches over the western parts in the morning, otherwise turning fine, cool to warm, with high-level cloud building in the south from the afternoon.

The coastal provinces bring the only real changes

The Western Cape sees cloudy skies along the coast with a chance of light rain over the Overberg and Garden Route Districts in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and cold to cool, but warm over the northern West Coast District.

The Eastern Cape’s western half starts with morning fog before clearing to fine, cool conditions, warm in the extreme north. The eastern half also starts foggy south of the escarpment, clearing to fine and cool, turning cloudy along the coast by evening with a chance of light rain and showers on the Wild Coast.

KwaZulu-Natal sees fog patches morning and evening, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm, turning cloudy in the late afternoon with isolated showers developing in the south-east.

Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape all carry a “high” to “very high” UVB sunburn index today, so it’s worth taking precautions against prolonged sun exposure even with the milder temperatures.

Watching a second straight day pass without a single SAWS warning genuinely surprised me, hey. I’m starting to think winter might actually be done with us this year.

Could Tuesday mark the start of a longer settled spell, or is this the calm before the next front?
