Batman: Arkham Knight Just Got A Major Upgrade Thanks To Fans

Translate

Jared is a writer, editor, and Communications Studies graduate who loves popular nerd culture (almost anything to do with Marvel, DC, Star Wars, or The Lord of the Rings) and the interactive storytelling medium. Jared's first console was the PS1, wherein he fell for Spider-Man, Spyro the Dragon, and Crash Bandicoot.

Batman: Arkham Knight is kind of like the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt of the Batman: Arkham series in a sense, only Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City are considered phenomenal games themselves, whereas The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings are not.

Either way, with the love that is expressed toward it in this day and age, more than 11 years since it was originally released, it’s unfortunate that we may never get new Batman: Arkham Knight story DLC, while The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is being revisited with a hefty remaster and a brand-new expansion on par with Blood and Wine.

That hasn’t deterred fans from adding or tweaking content in Batman: Arkham Knight’s base game, though. There are countless mods that have given players the experience they wished they could have when playing it, such as turning Batman: Arkham Knight’s Deathstroke boss fight into an actual toe-to-toe boss fight, rather than an underwhelming tank battle that takes place at the end of the game. Now, a new mod is gaining traction for rectifying one of the game’s biggest oversights, and its latest update makes it wonderfully cinematic.

Per Nexus Mods, modder excinus had recently done God’s work and unofficially added a tab to Batman: Arkham Knight’s pause menu that lets players switch their Batsuit. Without this mod, for the last 11 years, players have had to exit out of the game and return to Batman: Arkham Knight’s main menu in order to visit their wardrobe of available cosmetic skins for each character.

However, even more recently, this mod has been given an immersive, stunning update. Instead of sifting through a menu, you can now switch Batsuits in Gotham City’s Wayne Tower penthouse office, where Bruce Wayne confronts Thomas Elliot and rescues Lucius Fox by body-slamming Hush through his desk. Here, players will be able to peruse their costume selection if they interact with the bust statue, which raises Batman’s Batsuit and gadget compartments out of the floor.

Furthermore, once players have chosen a Batsuit, the suit-up cutscene that normally plays when Batman first suits up in Batman: Arkham Knight’s v8.03 Batsuit at the beginning of the game, only without music, and in Wayne Tower’s office. This cutscene transitions seamlessly back to gameplay, with Batman now wearing whatever the player selected for them.

If there’s any official update that Batman: Arkham Knight needed, it’d be this one, especially when considering how technically and visually impressive Batman: Arkham Knight is as a game that launched in 2015 otherwise. It’s undetermined whether Rocksteady or another studio will be developing a proper home console/flatscreen Batman: Arkham game in the near future, but Batman: Arkham Knight’s best mods are tiding fans over in the meantime.
