Richard Armitage’s much-anticipated new drama Winter confirms air date

If there's one thing we know about Richard Armitage, it's that he loves a thriller. Having written a number of his own, and starred in four Harlan Coben shows, he is now starring in a new series titled Winter.
The ITV detective drama also stars Annabel Scholey, and it has now been revealed just when it will be released.
The full first season will arrive on ITVX on Wednesday 30 September, while the first episode will air at 9pm that day on ITV1.
Alongside Armitage and Scholey, additional cast for the series includes Jamie Kenna (House of the Dragon), Carlotta Banat (3 Body Problem), Josh Barrow (Dear England), Adwoa Akoto (The Sandman), Jay Taylor (Manhunt), Rishi Rian (Ridley), Deirdre Mullins (The Couple Next Door), Ellis Elijah (Mammoth) and Evie Coles (The Lady Grace Mysteries).

The synopsis for the series says: "Set in Bristol, the series follows Dr Ethan Winter, one of the most gifted pathologists of his generation, whose analytical ability and instinct for reading victims make him an invaluable asset to murder investigations.
"His unorthodox, rule-breaking methods bring him into partnership with DI Lauren Bell, a meticulous and driven detective. Together, they form a formidable team, combining forensic insight with sharp investigative work to solve complex cases.
"Across the six-part series, each episode presents a self-contained crime, while a deeper serial narrative unfolds: Winter is haunted by the unsolved murder of someone close to him and is conducting his own unofficial investigation — a dangerous pursuit that threatens to consume him."

A first-look trailer has already been released for Winter, in which it is said that Armitage's title character can "read a body like other people read a book".
It is also teased that his trauma could be sending him down a dark path, as Scholey's Lauren warns that it does not excuse him breaking the law.
Winter will air on ITV1 and ITVX on Wednesday 30 September 2026.
