KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — U Mobile, Malaysia’s best 5G network provider, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HLGY Energy Sdn Bhd to collaborate on the development of next-generation smart solar farm solutions in Malaysia, enabled by U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network. The collaboration brings together private 5G connectivity, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and industrial automation to enhance the monitoring and management of solar farm operations.

HLGY Energy is a Malaysian renewable energy developer focused on developing and operating utility-scale solar and integrated energy solutions under Malaysia’s Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS) framework, including the Kedah Rubber City Solar Power Plant.

Under the MoU, both companies will explore the deployment of a private 5G network that would form the digital backbone of the smart solar farm. U Mobile would serve as HLGY Energy’s innovation, automation and communications infrastructure provider. The network’s dedicated, secure and reliable connectivity would support applications including autonomous drone inspections, AI-powered analytics and smart CCTV surveillance, enabling remote monitoring, earlier issue detection and faster response to operational and maintenance needs.

The partnership supports U Mobile’s enterprise growth strategy by applying the capabilities of its ULTRA5G network to the evolving needs of the renewable energy sector. Its network capabilities have received independent recognition by Ookla and Opensignal for speed and availability. The collaboration also strengthens U Mobile’s role as a digital solutions partner supporting businesses in their digital transformation.

“This collaboration will demonstrate how U Mobile’s ULTRA5G network can enable the next generation of smart and sustainable infrastructure. By combining private 5G connectivity with AI and industrial automation, we aim to help HLGY Energy develop renewable energy assets that are safer, more efficient and increasingly autonomous,” How Lih Ren, Chief Business Officer of U Mobile, said.

“Beyond connectivity, our ambition is to be a trusted digital solutions partner to enterprises across Malaysia. We look forward to applying our network and technology capabilities to support the country’s renewable energy aspirations, including the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS).”

“Malaysia’s green energy transition needs renewable energy infrastructure that is reliable, efficient and built for the future. Our collaboration with U Mobile brings together solar energy expertise and private 5G connectivity to explore how AI and automation can improve the way we operate and manage our solar assets,” Kenneth Yap, Chairman and Executive Director of HLGY Energy, said.

“Integrating AI with solar generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) operations can optimise when energy is stored and supplied, help reduce electricity costs and extend equipment life. As we advance our ambitions under CRESS, we aim to make clean energy a dependable choice for businesses, helping Malaysian industries decarbonise and contributing to the nation’s sustainable growth.”

The initiative supports HLGY Energy’s longer-term renewable energy plans including opportunities under CRESS. It demonstrates how advanced connectivity and automation can transform the management of critical energy infrastructure.

The collaboration reflects the growing convergence between digital infrastructure and renewable energy, demonstrating how advanced connectivity and intelligent technologies can support the digitalisation of Malaysia’s energy infrastructure.
