A Form 4 student has been charged with the murder of Irene Sofiya Khairool Faisal, 16, at the hall of a school in Yong Peng, Johor, earlier this month.

The boy, also 16, made no plea after being charged at the Batu Pahat magistrates’ court as murder cases fall under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

The minor is accused of killing Irene Sofiya at SMK Dato Seth in Yong Peng between 2.30pm and 4pm on Oct 3, Berita Harian reported.

The murder charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code is punishable by death or 30 to 40 years in prison and whipping, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutors Juanita Said and Firdaus Ruslan prosecuted while Suhaila Shafi’uddin and Azlan Shah Allias represented the accused.

No bail was granted. The court fixed Dec 22 for case management and the submission of Irene Sofiya’s autopsy report.
