10 Best Princess Donut Quotes From Dungeon Crawler Carl

Translate

Nobody in Dungeon Crawler Carl is as consistently hilarious and quotable as Princess Donut (AKA GC, BWR, NW Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk). Matt Dinniman’s series features larger-than-life characters like a murderous AI obsessed with feet, a foul-mouthed talking head, and dozens of outrageous monsters and crawlers who could each be scene-stealers in their own right. Somehow, the pampered Persian cat still gets the biggest laughs. Give Donut an audience, an unfortunate misunderstanding, or the slightest reason to complain, and Carl will almost certainly end up regretting it (but readers definitely won’t).

The best Princess Donut quotes make it easy to see why Carl’s feline companion has become the face of Dungeon Crawler Carl. She can deliver a filthy insult with the confidence of a seasoned internet troll, then become mortally offended by a completely innocent statement from another person. Whether she’s defending her dignity or destroying somebody else’s, Donut has a line for every occasion, and almost all of them are hilarious.

I Can’t Be Held Accountable For Everything I’ve Said To A Stripper, Carl!”

The Eye of the Bedlam Bride (2023)

Donut with her eyes closed looking innocent in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

Meeting potential allies becomes considerably harder when one of them has already watched footage of Donut threatening to murder catgirls. That’s the problem Carl faces in The Eye of the Bedlam Bride when trying to recruit Sister Ines, whose dungeon-assigned race happens to be a Havana Brown catgirl. Donut previously shared her murderous opinions with Anaconda, and the conversation made it onto a broadcast. When Carl challenges her about it, she reaches for this spectacular excuse. She also points out that she once told the naked Ifrit dancer Damascus Steel he would be Mongo’s new daddy.

As far as Princess Donut sees things, conversations with adult entertainers follow the same kind of client confidentiality rules as those with a doctor. It’s a ridiculous defense, particularly when Carl is trying to stop her old comments from causing a new fight. Donut could apologize, explain herself, or simply let him handle the introductions. Instead, she makes him consider the administrative burden of remembering everything she’s ever said to a stripper. The follow-up of the Mongo revelation makes it even funnier. Donut sees potentially ruining a relationship with a powerful new ally as inconsequential as casually announcing that she’s been auditioning replacement fathers for her pet dinosaur.

“I Can’t Wait For You To Come Back To Me, Louie. My Hand Is Stuck In The Washing Machine. Will You Come Help Me?”

This Inevitable Ruin (2024)

Princess Donut licking her paw in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

Many of the best Dungeon Crawler Carl Donut quotes don’t reach peak hilarity without some context, and that’s definitely the case with this line from 2024’s This Inevitable Ruin. Donut isn’t directly flirting here, but trying to goad the NPC Epitome Tagg. To do this, she impersonates his mother, but in an incredibly filthy context. Earlier in the book, Louis had Juice Box take the appearance of Tagg’s mother during a sexual encounter. With Louis’s life now in danger, Donut revives that humiliation in warlord chat, changing her name to “EPITOME TAGG’S SEXY MOTHER” and delivering this porn-inspired invitation.

The aim is to keep Tagg angry and distracted while the others work to save Louis. That setup turns an already crude joke into one of Donut’s greatest acts of public harassment. However, the specificity of the washing machine references turns the moment from laugh-out-loud funny into unforgettably hilarious. Even better, this isn’t just Donut being deliberately offensive. She’s actively helping. Her contribution to a desperate rescue is to become the most obnoxious person in the chat, and she approaches the assignment with magnificent enthusiasm, leading to some of her funniest lines in the entire Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

“YOU’RE MUCH TOO POOR TO BE TALKING TO ME LIKE THIS!”

This Inevitable Ruin (2024)

Faction Wars rival Prince Stalwart makes a serious mistake when he tries to intimidate Donut with an elaborate threat in The Inevitable Ruin. He clearly expects his speech, especially his threat to skin Donut and turn her into a codpiece, to be intimidating. Donut instead tears into the performance, mocking his insults and refusing to give him anything resembling the frightened response he wants. Then comes this vicious dismissal.

Considering that the Faction Wars are driven by financial gain and success, informing an enemy that his bank balance doesn’t qualify him to treat her with anything but respect is hilarious. It’s horribly snobbish, completely unnecessary, and a perfect display of the attitude that's cemented Donut as a fan-favorite Dungeon Crawler Carl character. Stalwart is trying to establish how dangerous he is, but Donut simply sees his bravado as a man of lesser status getting ideas above his station.

“Stop Gaslighting Me Jesus!”

The Eye of the Bedlam Bride (2023)

Carl and Donut looking angry in the Dungeon Crawler Carl graphic novel

Managing the eighth floor’s totem cards in The Eye of the Bedlam Bride proves much harder than simply collecting powerful monsters. The summoned creatures have personalities, and several of those personalities are a complete nuisance. Few, however, are as cantankerous as Uzi Jesus. During practice, Donut tells Uzi Jesus to heal Raul, only to have Jesus insist he has already done it. Donut can see that the job hasn’t been done, and she isn’t prepared to accept his version of events. This produces the sort of sentence that makes perfect sense in Dungeon Crawler Carl and almost nowhere else.

There’s something especially funny about Donut treating an armed Jesus as an irritating teammate who keeps lying about finishing his chores. Plenty of fantasy heroes spend entire books struggling with questions of faith and divine purpose. Donut gets straight to the practical issue: Jesus isn’t doing what he was told. The eighth floor has some ridiculous summons that lead to many hilarious moments, but watching Donut lose patience with this particular one is easily among the hilarious. This is also a Princess Donut quote that's funny even without context, and has become something of a meme among the Dungeon Crawler Carl fandom.

“Biscuits, Mordecai! I Need To Make Biscuits!”

A Parade of Horribles (2026)

Donut jumping into Carl's arms in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

A lot of the best Princess Donut quotes come when Matt Dinniman reminds audiences that, despite her newfound sentience, she is still a cat. This is exactly what happens when Donut receives an upgrade that lets her claws cut through practically anything, which sounds excellent until she realizes her paws aren’t only there to cause violence. Her reaction quickly moves beyond the obvious combat benefits to a much more urgent concern. How is she supposed to make biscuits without slicing through whatever, or whoever, she’s kneading? Mordecai now has to deal with a distressed cat whose new reward threatens her favorite comforts.

After everything Donut has survived in Dungeon Crawler Carl by the time of 2026’s A Parade of Horribles, the 8th book, it’s wonderfully funny that an inability to “make biscuits” is what sends her into a panic. She can handle monsters, assassination attempts, and the crushing responsibilities of being an intergalactic celebrity. Interfere with her ability to do happy little paw presses, however, and there will be complaints. Beneath the tiara and terrifying damage potential is an animal who still wants to knead something soft. A legendary weapon is all very well, but not if it comes at the expense of getting comfortable.

“I Have Never Snored Once In My Life, Carl. I Am Both A Princess And A Cat. It’s Quite Literally Impossible.”

The Butcher’s Masquerade (2022)

Donut nuzzling Carl in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

Carl has spent enough time around Princess Donut to know that her royal self-image doesn’t always match the evidence. Unfortunately, Donut doesn’t care much for any of Carl’s proof of her shortcomings. Never is this more hilarious than when the subject of her snoring comes up in The Butcher’s Masquerade. She makes sure that Carl knows there’s no possibility that she snores, and no amount of investigation will prove otherwise. She is both a princess and a cat, and that’s enough to settle the matter permanently.

This Dungeon Crawler Carl Donut quote is funny alone, but it’s even more hilarious to anyone who has heard a sleeping cat make noises like a malfunctioning appliance can appreciate just how confidently wrong she is. The fact that Donut also believes her royal title can literally prevent a bodily function also perfectly plays up to the idea of celebrity entitlement. What’s more, the mundanity of this small, wonderfully familiar argument amid all the dungeon’s carnage makes the moment one of Carl and Donut’s best. The world has ended, monsters want them dead, and Carl still has to tolerate a roommate who refuses to believe she snores.

“DO I LOOK LIKE SOMEONE WHO WOULD WILLINGLY GO TO IOWA?”

The Eye of the Bedlam Bride (2023)

Donut looking furious in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

The eighth floor recreates pieces of Earth in The Eye of the Bedlam Bride, and Donut definitely isn’t pleased with some of the destinations the dungeon recreates. When Iowa comes up among the floor’s reimagined locations, she responds as though somebody has suggested throwing her directly into sewage. There’s history behind the objection, too, which makes the already laugh-out-loud jab at the Hawkeye State even funnier: she associates a previous visit with being cheated out of a purple ribbon. Carl’s suggestion that she may be remembering Idaho does little to sooth her outrage. Donut has a grievance, and geographical accuracy isn’t going to spoil it.

Princess Donut's priorities here are hilariously on-brand. Earth has been demolished and repurposed into entertainment for aliens, but an old cat-show injustice still deserves airtime. The emphasis on “willingly” makes it sound as though visiting Iowa would require a kidnapping. She also expects her appearance to justify her objection without further discussion. It’s the kind of moment that perfectly captures why the Queen Anne Chonk is so beloved. Donut can face the horrors of the dungeon with impressive courage, but returning to somewhere she believes failed to appreciate her properly is unacceptable.

“Cats Don’t Shoot Lasers From Their Eyes Either, But Here We Are, Carl. Mama Needs A Night Off.”

Carl’s Doomsday Scenario (2021)

Donut smiling in her tiara in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

It’s rare that Carl is actually wrong when debating with Donut throughout the Dungeon Crawler Carl series, but in Carl's Doomsday Scenario he walks directly into an argument he deserves to lose. When Donut wants a cocktail, he objects that cats don’t drink alcohol. However, this particular cat can talk and cast spells. The normal rules don’t apply, and Donut promptly reminds him that they passed the limits of normal feline behavior some time ago. If he can accept the eye lasers, he should question her drinking a Dirty Shirley to take the edge off. Her following this up with “Mama needs a night off” turns an already funny comeback into a classic Princess Donut quote.

Suddenly, Donut sounds like she has spent the week working overtime and arranging childcare, rather than sitting on Carl’s shoulder issuing instructions. It’s an absurdly human complaint from a character who will happily invoke her cat status whenever it suits her. Being a cat is often all the justification Donut needs when bossing Carl around, but when he tries to use her species as an objection of his own, she dismisses it immediately. This tendency to change the rules of her relationship with Carl without a moment’s notice is a key reason Donut’s so hilarious, and this quote captures it perfectly.

“I AM YELLING CARL!”

Dungeon Crawler Carl (2020)

Donut enraged in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

One of the funniest traits of Princess Donut is that she almost always types her chat messages in all caps (especially with Jeff Hay's performance in the DCC audiobooks). However, Matt Dinniman hilariously flips the assumption readers (and Carl) have during the first few chapters of Dungeon Crawler Carl, that Donut simply doesn’t understand the etiquette of online human messaging, on its head. Like many of her stereotypical feline traits, Donut’s hatred of dogs doesn’t change when she gains intelligence. During one early chat exchange, she warns Carl about a “vile murderer” that is actually just a dog. Carl, having had enough, tries to challenge her outlook on canines, then also tries to address a separate problem: she doesn’t need to type everything in capital letters.

Carl tells her it comes across as though she’s yelling. Donut’s reply makes it clear that he has understood her intentions perfectly. The answer is so blunt that it barely leaves Carl anywhere to go. He thought he was offering helpful advice about how her messages come across. Donut thought she was successfully conveying the appropriate level of alarm about a dog. There’s no misunderstanding to clear up, just a cat who would like him to take the threat dogs pose seriously. It also establishes something essential about Donut’s chat messages throughout the series: the volume is deliberate. Carl can explain etiquette, request restraint, or ask for a little perspective all he likes, but as far as Donut is concerned, no words need to be heard more than her own.

“Mongo Is Appalled!”

Multiple, First Appears In Carl’s Doomsday Scenario (2021)

Carl and Donut in the Dungeon Crawler Carl webtoon

Few Donut quotes in the Dungeon Crawler Carl books are as reliably funny as her repeated announcements that Mongo is appalled. What begins as an outrageous complaint about Carl being visibly aroused by the NPC Signet becomes her preferred response to practically anything she finds objectionable. Somebody has behaved inappropriately, questioned her judgment, or otherwise failed to meet her standards, and apparently her pet dinosaur is disgusted. Donut is perfectly content to have everyone believe that Mongo spends much of the crawl suffering through a seemingly endless series of personal affronts, each more distressing than the last.

Of course, Mongo is a dinosaur with no real understanding of these conversations, making him an even funnier scapegoat. Donut can assign him whatever opinion strengthens her argument, then weaponize his supposed disappointment to make everyone else feel guilty. Upsetting her is bad enough, but upsetting her innocent baby is apparently unforgivable. Meanwhile, Mongo is generally much more interested in eating something than judging anyone’s manners. The more Donut invokes his delicate sensibilities as the Dungeon Crawler Carl novels, the funnier the gap becomes between the scandalized creature she describes and the cheerfully violent dinosaur accompanying her.
