KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 27 — More than 10,000 visitors are expected at the National Deepavali Celebration organised by the National Unity Ministry (KPN) in Brickfields here on November 14.

Deputy Minister R. Yuneswaran said the event, expected to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, would feature arts, culture and heritage activities from morning until night, including performances by artistes and unique exhibitions such as Rumah Malaysia.

“We are targeting more than 10,000 visitors on the day, as it falls on a Saturday. We hope many people will attend,” he told reporters at a hi-tea session with the media here today.

Yuneswaran called on media practitioners to work with the ministry and relevant departments to promote unity and social harmony, urging them to move away from issues related to the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty) or anything that could undermine social harmony.

“We can see significant changes in the unity index across the states. People out there are actually more united,” he said. — Bernama
