Indonesia tops Asian Greater Championship 2026 in horseback archery

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian national horseback archery team secured first place in the overall standings at the International Horseback Archery Alliance (IHAA) Asian Greater Championship 2026, held in Moscow, Russia.

"This achievement is a great source of pride because it means being the best in Greater Asia, covering all of Asia as well as several European countries," said Triwatty in an official statement here on Monday.

Triwatty is the chairperson of the All Indonesia Horse Sports Association (FN Pordasi) Horseback Archery Indonesia division.

At the event, held from September 25 to 27, athletes trained by FN Pordasi dominated the competition, winning seven gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals across three categories: young rider, senior, and junior.

Athlete Tio Fawaz Ananta contributed three gold medals for Indonesia in the senior category in the raid 233 and tower 90 events.

In the young rider category, Hammas Syauqi Syahid won one gold medal in hunt track and two silver medals in raid 233.

Meanwhile, the youngest athlete, Dzaakir Alhanif, who competed in the junior category, contributed one silver medal in hunt track, as well as three bronze medals in raid 233 and tower 90.

The results placed Indonesia at the top of the standings, ahead of host nation Russia and Kazakhstan.

Triwatty expressed her gratitude to the athletes and coaches who worked hard to achieve this accomplishment for Indonesia on the international stage.

She explained that Indonesia's participation in the championship in Moscow was not only about pursuing a podium finish, but also about strengthening Indonesia's position in the development of international horseback archery.

"This participation also strengthens friendship among member countries in the Greater Asia region," she added.

The IHAA Asian Greater Championship 2026 was attended by 12 countries, namely Indonesia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, China, Mongolia, Jordan, Morocco, Algeria, and Singapore, with a total of about 40 athletes.

The championship, which contested three categories, namely raid 233, tower 90, and hunt track/HBA eventing, is part of a horseback archery competition organized by continental zones under the IHAA, covering the Americas, Africa, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The series of international competitions also serves as part of preparations for the 2027 World Cup.
