India will aim to get back to winning ways when it takes on Germany in the open section of the Chess Olympiad 2026 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on Friday.
The Indian men’s team was held to a 1-1 draw by Azerbaijan in Round 8 on Thursday, while the women’s side also shared the points after drawing 2-2 against Kazakhstan. B. Savitha Shri saved India the blushes with a late victory.
India will face Germany in the open section in Round 9, while the women’s team will take on host Uzbekistan.
Vidit Gujrathi has been rested for the men’s tie, with Nihal Sarin coming into the lineup. In the women’s team, Vantika Agarwal replaces R. Vaishali.
The results on Thursday saw India drop to seventh in the standings. It has 13 points after eight rounds.
