New Vande Bharat sleeper trains have become an example of safe travel for women. Now it’s a fact that for women travelling alone in India, an overnight train journey can bring certain concerns.

Walking through dimly lit corridors, sharing coaches with strangers passengers and using washrooms late at night can be a few factors that can make long-distance journeys uncomfortable. However, India's new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express appears to be addressing some of these concerns. The newly introduced Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has captured people’s attention after travel creator Divya Saha (@explorerdivi), shared her recent experience of travelling.

Her review highlighted features such as CCTV cameras, locked doors, well-lit corridors and clean washrooms. The train was flagged off on November 1, 2026.The video

She captioned the video:‘Surprised with women safety features in Vande Bharat Sleeper Express’In the video, the creator shows the time which is 11:20 PM. She says that certain features in Vande Bharat sleeper are making her “feel safe”. One of the biggest talking points in Divya's review was the presence of CCTV cameras across the coaches.

For passengers travelling overnight, surveillance can provide an additional sense of security. Then she shows the train’s locked doors. Unlike conventional trains, where passengers can sometimes move between coaches or enter from platforms with relative ease, the new train has centrally controlled automatic plug doors. She pointed out that this could help prevent unauthorised passengers from entering the coaches.Another feature is the well-lit corridor. An apparently small detail that can make a difference when passengers, especially solo female travellers, need to step out of their berths to use the washroom.Importantly, these facilities are not exclusively meant for women. They can improve the sense of security for all passengers, including senior citizens, kids and people travelling alone.Clean washrooms: A major highlightWashroom hygiene is extremely important, particularly on long journeys.
