Osun APC rejects recall move against senator, backs Fadahunsi’s re-election

The All Progressives Congress in the six local government areas of the Osun East Senatorial District’s Ijesa axis has rejected calls for the recall of the senator representing the district, Francis Fadahunsi, describing those behind the move as anti-APC elements.

The Director, Contact and Mobilisation Committee of the APC in Ijesa South Federal Constituency, Akinyele Akintola, stated this in a statement obtained in Osogbo on Friday while reacting to a protest against Fadahunsi in Ilesa.

The six local government areas are Obokun, Oriade, Ilesa East, Ilesa West, Atakumosa East and Atakumosa West.

Akintola alleged that Fadahunsi’s political opponents were behind the protest and warned stakeholders in the Osun East Senatorial District against actions capable of creating tension.

Earlier, a group comprising youths from the Osun East Senatorial District had staged a peaceful protest in Ilesa against the lawmaker.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Olatunji Olorunfemi accused Fadahunsi of making comments capable of causing mass violence.

Olorunfemi said the protest was the first phase of efforts to end Fadahunsi’s representation of the district, adding that the process to recall the senator would soon be initiated.

He also said a petition against the lawmaker had been filed and that the recall process would be executed without hitch.

“We, under the aegis of the Coalition of Youth and Students with Concerned Citizens of Osun East Senatorial District, are opposed to the reckless statements made by our Senator before the election.

“This protest is the first stage of our actions. We are recalling him back home, We are still going to Abuja. All the necessary lawful actions to recall him have been put together which we will start in a few days. We have filed the petition and we are following it with action that his recall process will follow,” Olorunfemi said.

But Akintola, while dismissing the recall call, highlighted what he described as some of Fadahunsi’s achievements in more than seven years in the Senate.

He said about 400 qualified women and youths had been assisted by Fadahunsi to secure gainful employment.

“On the home front, there are physical evidence of tangible impact, Investment and achievements in Education, Road Construction and Rehabilitation, Electricity and Solar Power, ICT Projects, Youth and Women Empowerments in Skills Acquisition and Social Interventions.

“Fadahunsi is a law abiding citizen and has impeccable track record as a High Ranking Customs Officer without any blemish. He is by dint of hard work, patriotism and honest public records conferred with the prestigious honor of Order of the Federal Republic, OFR by the government. We in APC reject call for his recall by any sponsored groups or individuals,” Akintola said.

He further emphasised that re-electing Fadahunsi would be to the advantage of the East Senatorial District, citing the senator’s relationship with President Bola Tinubu and heads of Federal Government ministries and agencies.

According to him, this would facilitate the implementation of more initiatives capable of positively impacting residents of the 10 local government areas in the district.
