The search for a new James Bond has given fans of the franchise a lot to talk about in recent weeks, with speculation surrounding Daniel Craig's successor dominating the conversation. While several major Hollywood stars have emerged as potential candidates for the role, there's still no official word on who will inherit the iconic 007 title.

Fortunately, Bond fans don't have to wait for the next movie to dive back into the franchise. IO Interactive's 007 First Light let players jump into a new James Bond adventure earlier this year, introducing a younger version of the character played by Patrick Gibson. The studio behind Hitman delivered an incredibly original origin story following Bond's early days with MI6, complete with dangerous missions, globe-trotting espionage, and of course, that famous 007 charm.

For anyone who hasn't had the opportunity to experience 007 First Light since its May release, now might be the perfect time to see what's on offer. Millions of players can officially take advantage of a new free download, available to check out now.

James Bond fans who haven't had the opportunity to play 007 First Light since its release earlier this year are in luck, as the acclaimed action-adventure game is now available as a free download for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers. The surprise addition gives millions of eligible PS5 owners the opportunity to experience Bond's latest adventure without purchasing the full game.

There is a catch, however, as the free trial is limited to just one hour of gameplay. Players can access the download through the PlayStation Plus section of their PS5, navigating to the Premium Game Trials collection and selecting 007 First Light. Importantly, this offer is exclusive to Premium subscribers, meaning those with PlayStation Plus Essential or Extra memberships won't be eligible.

For the uninitiated, PlayStation Plus Game Trials allow subscribers to experience the actual game for a designated period, as opposed to a separate dedicated demo or the like. The timer only counts time spent playing, and any progress made during the trial, including earned trophies, carries over if players decide to purchase the full game.

In the case of 007 First Light, one hour should be enough to experience the game's opening mission and potentially reach its impressive opening title sequence, featuring an original song by Lana Del Rey. While this is only a small taste of the larger experience, it should give players a decent idea of what to expect from IO Interactive's James Bond adaptation, which has received rave reviews since its launch.

The game currently holds an impressive 87 Metascore on Metacritic, with critics praising its combination of espionage, cinematic action, and original story exploring Bond's early days with MI6. Further, Screen Rant's own review was similarly enthusiastic, awarding 007 First Light a 9/10 score. Reviewer Kyle Gratton praised its fresh interpretation of the iconic character, describing the game as having an innovative story celebrating Bond's legacy alongside "franchise-best gameplay."

For longtime James Bond fans still waiting for the next big-screen installment, this free trial offers an excellent opportunity to see what the franchise has been doing in the meantime, even if only for a limited time.
