"Suspenseful" and "riveting" thriller with Stephen Graham confirms UK release date

Upcoming thriller Bunker, which stars Oscar winners and real-life married couple Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem, has finally confirmed a release date in the UK.

The film follows an architect who accepts a commission to build a luxury bunker for a controversial tech billionaire, only to find that his decision has put a huge strain on his marriage.

As per the official synopsis: "Bunker is a dramatic thriller that examines the emotional and moral challenges faced by a couple as the anxieties of an increasingly uncertain world begin to reshape their marriage, exploring the fears, doubts, and ethical dilemmas that define our time."

It debuted at the Venice Film Festival and received a staggering 16-minute standing ovation, which was a record for this year until the incredibly harrowing NAZA received a 25-minute ovation (via Deadline).

Now it's been confirmed that the film, which also stars Stephen Graham, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Mark Gatiss, Eileen Atkins, and Paul Dano, will be releasing in UK and Irish cinemas on 19 February, 2027.

But you don't necessarily have to wait that long to see it. If you're going to the London Film Festival, it will be screened on 10 October.

Although it received a huge standing ovation, the critics who have seen the film so far are divided on it, with Bunker currently standing at 54% positive on Rotten Tomatoes from 24 reviews.

It should be noted that as the film receives more screenings and goes on general release, that score is likely to change.

Variety said that that film was "riveting in all its obsessive-compulsive meticulousness — in large part because Bardem and Cruz, both so fragile and so solid," while ScreenRant praised Bardem's "stellar performance".

"What keeps Bunker suspenseful, intriguing, and engaging is how damn good Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz are at their craft," reads But Why Tho?'s review. "In less capable hands and with less in-your-face charisma and magnetism, the film would be all the weaker without them."

Bunker will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 19 February next year.
