Emmerdale airs heartbreaking aftermath of Vinny Dingle arrest and sad Jimmy King twist in early ITVX release

The future is looking seriously bleak for Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) in Emmerdale.

Earlier this week, amid his intense guilt over Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Dawn Fletcher's (Olivia Bromley) deaths, the character decided to come clean about his involvement. He admitted that he was video calling Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), which meant Jimmy had to swerve his car into Dawn's wedding marquee.

Her grieving fiancé Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was furious, while her ex-hubby Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) launched a violent attack.

Meanwhile, Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) decided to phone the police. Vinny later woke up in hospital following his injuries, and was arrested.

DS Thea Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) warned that the CPS wanted to press charges, and he was looking at a custodial sentence.

In today's episode, Vinny seemed to have accepted his fate. His mother figure Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) was mortified, and said that she'd do anything to help him – including pleading with Nicola for help.

She asked her to put a good word in for him, and to tell the judge that he had a good character. Mandy said that she hoped Nicola would understand given daughter Angelica (Rebecca Bakes) was also responsible for a death by dangerous driving.

After an explosive argument, Nicola broke down in tears into Mandy's arms. She said that, although she wished him no ill will, she could never forgive him and that he had to face the consequences.

Meanwhile, youngster Carl Holliday (Charlie Joyce) was planning to create a beautiful tribute for his late father to play during the ceremony. Nicola was initially thrilled, though upon learning that there were voice notes that could detail his supposed affair with ex-wife Sadie King (Patsy Kensit), said she'd have to take the laptop off him.

She didn't want to upset the child, and suggested that he scan some old photos instead.

Nicola had opened up to Mandy about the voice notes, with a suggestion being made that she listened to the voice notes and faced up to the potential repercussions – just as Vinny is doing.

Alone, Nicola sat down and pressed play. She was horrified to hear that Sadie's claims appeared to be true, and stormed off.

However, with the laptop still playing and nobody listening, poor Jimmy confessed that his heart still lay with Nicola. He said that he loved her to bits, and it wasn't right lying to her.

Will Nicola eventually hear the full message?
