The arrests follow previous police operations against suspected cultists in Lagos. In October 2025, PREMIUM TIMES reported the arrest of five suspected cultists after a clash in the Onireke and Isashi areas left one person dead.

In July 2026, a report stated that police arrested 135 suspected cultists during coordinated raids across the state and recovered 26 firearms.

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Tijani Fatai, said the command would continue its efforts to dismantle cult groups and other criminal networks.

He urged residents to provide credible information to help the police tackle crime in their communities and warned suspected criminals to desist from unlawful activities.

The command provided the following emergency numbers for residents to report security concerns: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870 and 09168630929. The number 08080193432 is for marine-related emergencies.
