Hayden Panettiere cause of death revealed

Hayden Panettiere died from the toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol, and quetiapine, according to the Greenville County Coroner's Office. The manner of death was ruled an accident.

"On August 16, 2026, at approximately 1:51 PM, a 911 call was received regarding a reported cardiac arrest at 701 Easley Bridge Road in Greenville," the Greenville County Coroner's Office said in a press release obtained by Fox News Digital. "First responders and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and located a female in cardiac arrest. EMS personnel initiated advanced cardiac life support measures; however, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2:32 PM."

"The Greenville County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and initiated a parallel investigation with the Greenville City Police Department. The decedent has been identified as Hayden Leslie Panettiere, 36, of California. Panettiere was found unresponsive inside the residence, where she had been temporarily staying.

"An autopsy was completed by a Board Certified Forensic Pathologist. At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death." 

"The cause of death has been ruled as toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine. The manner of death has been ruled accident."

Panettiere was found dead inside a Greenville residence on Aug. 16. She was 36.

The late star's boyfriend Brian Hickerson and his brother, Zach, called 911 after finding the actress unresponsive, according to a police report obtained by Fox News Digital. Hickerson later gave authorities a bag containing medication Panettiere had been taking, according to the report.

The police report claimed Zach appeared "very emotional" while paramedics worked to revive Panettiere. Meanwhile, Hickerson did not become emotional until the "Ice Princess" star was declared deceased.

Hickerson reportedly traveled with the "Remember the Titans" actress from Los Angeles the day before she was found unresponsive, according to TMZ. The two broke up briefly in 2022, but rekindled their romance the following year. Hickerson's brother confirmed to police Brian was in a relationship with the actress at the time of Panettiere's death.

Fox News has learned the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has also been contacted and is assisting with the investigation.

Panettiere's representatives previously condemned speculation surrounding the star's final hours and accused outsiders of turning her death into an opportunity to "fuel gossip."

"Many people who were not close to Hayden are using her death as an opportunity to fuel gossip and speculation about a situation they knew very little about," Panettiere's rep said in a statement shared with US Weekly. "It is deeply disrespectful to her memory and to those who knew and loved her and are actively grieving this tremendous loss."

"If you have legitimate information that could be helpful, please contact law enforcement rather than turning to social media to speculate publicly about something you do not fully understand."

Panettiere's team also hinted that key details surrounding Panettiere’s death had yet to emerge.

"There is much more to this story than what is currently being discussed publicly, and those closest to Hayden are actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation to help ensure that the truth comes to light and that justice is properly served," the statement concluded.
