Juventus winger Francisco Conceicao was sent off after being shown two yellow cards within 10 seconds in the 86th minute, just as he was about to be substituted off, during Portugal’s Nations League victory over Norway on Sunday evening.

Conceicao had started in Portugal’s 2-1 victory against Norway in Porto on Sunday evening, helping his nation to their fourth win in as many matches at the start of the 2026-27 Nations League campaign.

The Juventus forward had been due to come off in the final few minutes of regular time: Pedro Neto and Bernardo Silva were waiting to come on on the sidelines.

However, just before the substitution was made, Conceicao went down in the penalty area under the challenge of Genoa centre-back Leo Ostigard and went down clutching the back of his leg.

He was shown a yellow card for his protests towards Italian referee Maurizio Mariani, who then dished out a second yellow almost immediately afterwards when Conceicao raised a sarcastic thumbs up towards the official.

Conceicao was shown the second of his yellow cards as he was making his way towards the byline, where he was meant to walk off to allow substitute Neto to come on. The Chelsea man was forced to re-take his place on the bench for the remainder of the game.

The Bianconeri winger will now be suspended for Portugal’s next Nations League match, which will be at home against Denmark on November 14.
