Police arrest Brazilian offered US$50,000 to smuggle cocaine to Bali

A 36-year-old Brazilian woman was arrested in Bali on suspicion of smuggling 3.6 kilograms of liquid cocaine disguised as beauty products, with police saying she was promised US$50,000 for the delivery.

“The suspect admitted that she was ordered by someone called G with a reward of US$50,000 if she succeeded in bringing cocaine from Brazil to be handed over to someone in Bali,” Bali Police Public Information Subdivision Head Rina Isriana Dewi said here Sunday.

Rina said the woman, identified by the initials TCDS, had been named a suspect and detained at Bali Police Headquarters. She allegedly acted as a drug courier.

She concealed the liquid cocaine in seven bottles disguised as beauty products and packed them in her suitcase for the flight.

Besides the US$50,000 payment, she was promised accommodation and transportation for her journey from Brazil to Bali and back.

Investigators said TCDS had booked a flight from Brazil to Bali departing on October 5, 2026, and a return flight scheduled for November 3.

However, a joint team from the Bali Police Narcotics Directorate and Ngurah Rai Customs and Excise arrested her on October 6 upon arrival at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Badung, Bali.

Investigators charged her under Articles 609(2) and 610(2) of Indonesia’s Criminal Code for possessing cocaine and importing cocaine into Bali, respectively.

Rina described the seizure as one of Bali’s largest liquid cocaine busts in recent years.

Bali Police said they would continue combating drug trafficking through inter-agency cooperation and tighter surveillance at the island’s entry points.

Police estimated that the seizure could prevent thousands of people from being exposed to the dangers of drug abuse.
