Will there be a season 5 of Trigger Point?

ITV has not yet confirmed a fifth season of Trigger Point.

The broadcaster ordered season 4 of the drama during production on the third, but has opted to bide its time before announcing any more.

According to ratings analyst Barb, Trigger Point has continued to be a strong performer for ITV, with season 4 episodes among the most-viewed broadcasts of each week they premiered.

In the latest seven-day consolidated chart, Trigger Point (4.9m) outpaced BBC One's own flashy thriller Vigil (3.8m), but fell slightly short of David Mitchell juggernaut Ludwig (5.7m).

This, combined with strong social media buzz, suggests there is reason to be hopeful for more Trigger Point.

However, it's possible the show could take a break after two back-to-back seasons, giving Lana some time to rest, and McClure a promotional break ahead of Line of Duty's return.

Could Trigger Point season 5 return?

Yes, because Lana narrowly survives the finale, the creative runway for another season remains intact – even though she seemingly steps back from bomb disposal.

Having stopped a nuclear device at a football stadium and recovered from a sniper attack, she hands in her badge for a leisurely trip across the French countryside.

The optimistic farewell could serve as a full stop, or as an open door to more.

What have the cast of Trigger Point said?

When quizzed on the possibility of Trigger Point season 5, McClure told Radio Times: "For me, it always boils down to the audience.

"They're the deciders and, my word, they've been so supportive to Trigger Point over the years. I try not to stress too much about [rating] figures because they're not what they used to be anymore, but we still get really good figures, so that means something."

McClure added: "We're really proud of it. If everyone watches and everybody in their droves are going, 'this can’t be the end,' then there’s a conversation to be had."

Who could be in the Trigger Point season 5 cast?

If Trigger Point returns, the cast would depend heavily on where the story picks up after the finale.

Vicky McClure remains the show's anchor as Lana Washington, and her involvement would likely be central to any continuation.
