Arsenal handed huge boost for Bayern Munich showdown after 'super dumb' red card

Bayern had an unexpectedly dramatic night against Viking in their second match of this season's Champions League.

The Bundesliga champions were 2-0 down at half-time, but recovered to turn it around as Harry Kane netted a brace and Luis Diaz then put Bayern in front.

However, there was another twist to come. Michael Olise was booked for a cynical pull of the shirt and then immediately earned himself a second yellow card for throwing the ball in the face of a Viking player.

"It was our own fault," Vincent Kompany said.

"This red card was super dumb... you can see in [Olise's] eyes that he's sorry about it and that he regrets letting the team down."

That was a particularly significant red card as it means Olise will not be available for Bayern's next Champions League match against Arsenal.

The Gunners travel to Munich next Wednesday for a blockbuster showdown and will not have to worry about coming up against Olise.

The Frenchman has been in superb form this season. Before the trip to Viking, Olise had scored nine goals and provided four assists in his last eight games for club and country.

"I think the beautiful challenge will be Nottingham Forest away, and we’ve experienced that over the last few years," Arteta sad, sidestepping that question.
