Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has said he would be comfortable returning to radio if his political career came to an end, responding to Kenyans who have suggested he should keep his media contacts as he eyes the Nairobi Senate seat in 2027.

Jalang’o, a former radio presenter, is seeking to become Nairobi Senator in the next General Election, where he could face Winnie Odinga, who has also declared interest in the seat.

Amid the political contest, some social media users have suggested that the MP should maintain his connections in the media industry in case he needs to return to his former career.

During an Instagram conversation on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Jalang’o was asked whether he had retained the phone number of his former radio colleague Alex Mwakideu.

“Watu wanasema usipoteze number ya Alex Mwakideu juu atakusaidia kurudi radio,” the person asked.

Jalang’o responds to calls to return to radio

Jalang’o dismissed suggestions that he had lost contact with Mwakideu, confirming that he still had the presenter’s number.

He also questioned why some people were already discussing his possible return to radio, saying he had done nothing to warrant such remarks.

“Number one, sijawai poteza number ya Alex. Na hao watu wanasema nitarudi radio, eii jamani, niliwakosea wapi? Nilikosea nani?” he said.

The MP went on to describe his political journey as being guided by God, saying he would accept whatever direction his life took, including a possible return to broadcasting.

“Sijawai kosea mtu na uongozi ni mambo ya God. Mpaka hapa mahali niko, ni God. Na kama God ataamua narudi radio…” Jalang’o said.

He also defended radio as a lucrative career for people who develop their talents, suggesting that returning to the industry would not necessarily represent a setback.

“Unajua radio is one of the most well-paying jobs. Sana sana. Once you build your talents, radio itakujenga fiti,” he added.

Jalang’o prepares for Nairobi Senate race

Jalang’o’s remarks come as he positions himself for the Nairobi Senate contest ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Winnie Odinga announced her intention to vie for the seat during the first anniversary memorial of her father, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, held at Migwena Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Jalang’o responded to her announcement on X the same day, signalling his readiness to compete for the seat.
