Michael Fassbender's spy movie has found a new streaming home. The 49-year-old actor has been nominated for two Oscars for his performances in 2013's 12 Years a Slave and 2015's Steve Jobs and has held major roles in a number of big-budget franchise movies. His longest-running role is as young Magneto in the X-Men franchise (a character he played in 2011's First Class, 2014's Days of Future Past, 2016's Apocalypse, and 2019's Dark Phoenix), but he has also portrayed the synthetic android David in Prometheus and Alien: Covenant and led the 2016 video game adaptation Assassin's Creed.

Recently, he starred in the 2025 spy thriller Black Bag, which was written by David Koepp and directed by Steven Soderbergh. It stars Fassbender as NCSC counterintelligence officer George T. Woodhouse, who is forced to interrogate where his loyalties lie when his wife, NCSC Head of Signals Operations Kathryn St. Jean (Cate Blanchett), is suspected of treason. While the movie underperformed in theaters, grossing $43.8 million against its reported budget of roughly $50 million, it became a streaming hit on Prime Video six months later and its record-breaking 96% Rotten Tomatoes score makes it the best-reviewed Michael Fassbender movie ever.

Fassbender's Black Bag Is Bringing Its Spy Thrills To Hulu

While Black Bag is currently streaming on the NBCUniversal subscription platform Peacock, it will be leaving their library in four days. However, it has been officially revealed that the movie will more or less instantly find a new streaming home, as it is set to join Hulu's library of licensed titles on November 2. It will arrive on the platform just one day after Fassbender's Assassin's Creed movie begins streaming on Hulu as well.

While a number of movies (including Aliens, The Devil Wears Prada, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) are set to debut on Hulu on November 1 thanks to shifting licensing agreements that typically go into effect at the beginning of the month, the Steven Soderbergh movie is the only feature set to arrive on the streamer on November 2, which is a day that will otherwise see the arrival of a number of television titles, namely Desperately Devoted season 1, The Promise: Finding My Mother’s Killer season 1, and Start Here season 1.

The Streaming Change Comes At The Perfect Time

This streaming change means that Black Bag will be exposed to a whole new streaming audience at the perfect time. It is well-timed to follow up on the release of The Agency season 2 this June. The Paramount+ espionage series, which debuted in December 2024, stars Michael Fassbender as former CIA operative and current London Station Deputy Director of Operations. While it is unclear if season 3 will come to fruition amid delays and Paramount Skydance's recent merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, the recent arrival of season 2 has likely refreshed general interest in Fassbender's spy projects.

That factor, combined with the fact that Black Bag reviews were strong enough that the movie still holds Michael Fassbender's Rotten Tomatoes record more than a year later, could help the spy movie grow its streaming audience even more after spending time on both Prime Video and Peacock.
