Wellington is expected to witness an overcast day with spells of rain in the afternoon, raising concerns over the possibility of another weather-affected contest between India and New Zealand in the second ODI on Saturday.
According to the latest forecast, temperatures are expected to range between 15°C and 20°C, with a 60 per cent chance of precipitation during the day. The morning is likely to remain largely cloudy but dry, with the possibility of rain increasing from around 2 p.m. local time.
Showers are forecast between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., coinciding with the scheduled start of the match at 3 p.m. local time (7.30 a.m. IST). The rain could ease towards the evening, although further showers cannot be ruled out.
Will rain affect India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI?
Rain could potentially interrupt the second ODI, particularly during the afternoon session. While the morning forecast offers some encouragement, the predicted arrival of showers around the scheduled start makes the weather a concern for both teams. India’s practice session in Wellington on match eve was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The first ODI in Auckland was also affected by rain, forcing the contest to be shortened to 32 overs per side in India’s second innings.
With India leading the five-match series 1-0, Shubman Gill’s side will be keen to secure another victory.
First ODI recap: India won the rain-affected series opener by five wickets (DLS) after bowling New Zealand out for 185. Virat Kohli’s 74 off 51 balls guided India to the revised target of 143 in 22.4 overs, giving it a 1-0 lead.
