Lara Quigaman’s mom safe after Canada-bound flight diverted over cabin pressure issue

Lara Quigaman revealed that her mother Precy was among the passengers on Philippine Airlines flight PR116, a Canada-bound flight that was diverted to Alaska due to a cabin pressurization issue.

The actress and former beauty queen heaved a sigh of relief as she assured that her mom is now safe, through a video she shared on her Facebook page on Thursday, Sept. 10.

“Kagabi, my mom was supposed to arrive from Manila papunta dito sa Vancouver. But then arround the time that she was supposed to land, may na-receive akong e-mail from the airline na na-divert ‘yung flight,” she narrated.

Quigaman immediately searched online why the flight had been diverted and learned that there was an emergency, which caused her to panic.

“Kinabahan talaga ako. Sobra akong natakot. That was around 5, 6 p.m., and up until 7:30 p.m. wala akong nari-receive na may message from my mom,” she continued. “Hindi na talaga ako mapakali to the point na naiiyak na ako.”

Quigaman said her husband, Marco Alcaraz, tried to calm her down and asked her to join him in a prayer. She then reflected on her faith and was reminded of God’s words.

“Just a few minutes after that prayer, my mom messaged and sabi niya no’n lang daw siya nagkaroon ng access sa Wi-Fi kaya hindi siya naka-message agad,” she recalled.

“She’s fine, everyone was fine. Although it was a scary time kasi nagbaba na raw ng mga oxygen masks, and a lot of people were already panicking and scared. She also hyperventilated, but I’m so thankful that she is safe,” Quigaman said.

It was not immediately known whether Precy had already arrived in Canada.

PAL earlier released a statement on the matter, saying that the flight diverted following an “indication concerning the aircraft’s cabin pressurization system.” The airline assured that all passengers and crew on board landed safely in Anchorage, Alaska. /ra
