Serie A proposal accepted to open January transfer window on December 28

Serie A clubs have requested that the 2027 January transfer window open several days earlier, so they will be able to make trades from December 28, pending FIFA approval.
The sides put forward the proposal and it was accepted by the FIGC at today’s meeting, but can only be finalised once FIFA have approved the change.
Serie A to start trading early
The transfer window was meant to open on January 2, 2027, which remains the status quo for the Premier League, LaLiga and several others.
They maintain that bringing the opening forward to December 28, 2026 would allow for trades to be made within the financial year, therefore helping them balance the books.
It is still scheduled to come to a close on February 1, 2027, so is being extended by a few days rather than simply shuffled along.
This new expanded window will apply to Serie A, Serie B and Lega Pro clubs in Italian football.
