They also studied and participated in onstage and onscreen acting extensively from the ages of 7 to 18.

Aside from working at Screen Rant, Dani has worked as a freelance editor and writer over the past decade, often in a ghostwriting capacity.

Hollywood will bring eight beloved books to the screen in 2027, and many others are projected for next year, even if they don’t have confirmed release dates yet. The publishing industry and indie authors put out phenomenal stories every year, many of which are optioned for TV or movie adaptations. Sometimes these deals are made before the books even release. However, it’s not uncommon for deals to pop up after novels gain traction on BookTok or with a wider mainstream readership. In the latter case, book-to-screen adaptations are more likely to succeed because of a passionate, built-in audience.

This year, highly anticipated projects, including Project Hail Mary and The Five-Star Weekend, were released to widespread acclaim. Similarly, titles like Remarkably Bright Creatures and Margo’s Got Money Troubles won at the 2026 Emmys. Next year will be just as big a year for readers, with plenty of big-name adaptations on the way. A few titles, like Children of Blood and Bone and The Magician’s Nephew, are a big deal and relatively exciting but also mired with drama. However, eight book-to-screen adaptations confirmed for a 2027 release have much more widespread anticipation, and another seven without confirmation are just as thrilling.

Neuromancer

Neuromancer by William Gibson is a foundational work of the cyberpunk genre. Even if it wasn’t the first, it was one of the earliest and most influential, to the point that Gibson is often called “the father of cyberpunk.” After a little over four decades, we’re finally getting to see the console cowboy, Case, and the razor-girl assassin, Molly, on their digital heist.

The project is in good hands. Apple TV+ has established itself as the premium streamer for sci-fi TV shows. J.D. Dillard and Graham Roland are apt co-creators, and skilled actors Callum Turner and Briana Middleton will lead the show. Ultimately, the 1980s cyberpunk book is one of the riskiest adaptations, but it could also be one of the best.

The Nightingale

Theaters: March 19, 2027

Sisters Elle Fanning and Dakota Fanning have acted since childhood, and they’re both incredible performers. Surprisingly, they’ve never shared the screen. They recorded My Neighbor Totoro separately. In I Am Sam, Elle played a younger version of Dakota’s character. Now, they are not only acting opposite each other but also playing sisters in The Nightingale.

Their collaboration alone is a reason to be excited, but The Nightingale is also a critically acclaimed book with powerful characters. In this World War II story, two estranged sisters, Vianne Mauriac and Isabelle Rossignol, follow different paths as the war takes off, and their stories show survival and resistance in an unbearably evil war. The story is tragic and beautiful. Additionally, the delays in releasing this movie have given audiences time to build excitement.

Beach Read

Theaters: May 7, 2027

Beach Read by Emily Henry shows a woman laying on a beach towel and a man reading a book
  • You can purchase Beach Read at this link.

Romance writer Emily Henry is among the genre's most celebrated modern authors. All but one of her adult romance novels from the past five years have been adapted or optioned for the screen, with Beach Read next. In the story, two writers with opposite personalities become summer neighbors and make a deal. They take on each other’s genres and go on trips together, agreeing not to fall in love.

The movie version is especially exciting because Yulin Kuang, the director and writer, is a passionate fan of the source material, making the adaptation more likely to be faithful. On top of that, Henry has given it a vote of confidence, saying, “Trust the vision” (via Vulture). Plus, Bridgerton’s Phoebe Dynevor will play January Andrews, which is an unexpected but great casting.

Silo Season 4

Apple TV+ Release: July 9, 2027 Premiere

Hugh Howey’s Silo is a mystery, thriller, and sci-fi all wrapped into one, and the Apple TV adaptation has been popular with viewers. In a post-apocalyptic world, the remaining humans live in siloes, unable to go into the seemingly uninhabitable outside world. Over the past three seasons, the writers have wrapped up almost all of Shift and started into Dust, obviously adding elements unique to the TV show. Luckily, the end of Silo season 3 sets up a great final season with high stakes.

Apple TV's Silo season 4, confirmed as the last, will use Dust to solve the biggest remaining mysteries and reach a conclusion. Theoretically, they could use elements of “In the Woods,” a short story that takes place afterward, but that seems unlikely given its extremely bleak tone.

Fake Skating

Theaters: July 16, 2027

Lynn Painter's 2025 book Fake Skating is a swoonworthy hockey rom-com that’s coming to the big screen next year. In the book, estranged childhood best friends Dani and Alec fake date so that he can restore his reputation with NHL scouts and she can get a team manager position to bolster her Harvard application.

Question 1 of 3

Both leads, Amelie Hoeferie and Graham Campbell, are newer actors, which is a risk but also really exciting to see in a feature film. Author Lynn Painter vouched for the two, telling The Hollywood Reporter that she saw their chemistry read and thought, “This could be magic.” What’s more, Josh Boone has experience writing and directing in the romance genre, having played a behind-the-scenes role in hits like The Fault in Our Stars and Regretting You.

Heated Rivalry Season 2

Crave & HBO Max Release: Spring 2027

Two spicy hockey romances took the world by storm over the past year: Off-Campus and Heated Rivalry. Prime Video’s Off-Campus is in an ambiguous place when it comes to release dates with projections ranging from December 2026 to mid-2027. However, Heated Rivalry has a more certain answer. Shane and Ilya will be back on our screens in Spring 2027, finally in a committed relationship. The more serious phase of their romance is unbelievably exciting.

Heated Rivalry season 2 will adapt The Long Game by Rachel Reid, the second Ilya and Shane book and the sixth in the overall Game Changers series. Luckily, the couple will remain the anchor and emotional core of the TV show, even as they tie in couples from other books like Troy and Harris from Role Model.

A Good Girl's Guide To Murder Season 3

Netflix & BBC iPlayer Release: TBD 2027

A Good Girl's Guide to Murder trilogy
  • You can purchase the entire A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series at this link.

Netflix and the BBC teamed up on one of the best amateur sleuth TV shows in years, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, based on the trilogy by Holly Jackson. Two seasons have been released, bringing the titular first novel and the sequel, Good Girl, Bad Blood, to life. Secretly, they filmed A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back, announcing just days after the second season came out. This means we will actually get a conclusion to the story onscreen.

Though the episode count drops from six to four, there are plenty of reasons to be excited. As Good As Dead is frequently cited as a fan favorite. Emma Myers is executive producing, and Holly Jackson wrote the script. They both love the last book most. If anyone can tell As Good As Dead’s story in four episodes, it’s that duo.

Murderbot Season 2

Apple TV+ Release: TBD 2027

At the end of 2025, Martha Wells confirmed on The Coode Street Podcast that the next season of Murderbot would come out in 2027, and anticipation is high. The show made a splash with its perfect blend of sci-fi and comedy and its unique main character. The SecUnit self-named Murderbot is especially relatable for many neurodivergent viewers, with its special interest in soap operas and inability to understand emotions and human beings.

In addition to bringing Alexander Skarsgård’s Murderbot back, the Apple TV+ show has an absolutely stacked cast of recurring and guest stars joining season 2. This includes big names like Steve Buscemi, Wanda Sykes, and Michael Sheen. The next books being adapted include plenty of character development. Plus, Murderbot season 2 will lean into cyberpunk themes and style.
