Coronation Street and Emmerdale off air again tonight in ITV schedule shake-up – here's when you can next watch

Bad news, soap fans – sports coverage is about to disrupt scheduled editions of Coronation Street and Emmerdale again!

The soaps usually air in what ITV dub as a "power hour", each weekday evening at 8pm. This new time slot was introduced to provide consistency and to help navigate the disruption that the footy causes annually.

However, since then, both serial dramas have been repeatedly shifted to accommodate other programmes.

Today (Wednesday 16 August) is no exception, as the broadcaster will air coverage of the EFL Carabao Cup Live at 7.30pm. Kick-off is half an hour later at 8pm, with Mark Pougatch presenting all the action from the third-round tie between Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford.

Soap viewers will undoubtedly be wondering when they can tune into their next slice of Weatherfield or Dales action. Luckily, there isn't long to wait.

Emmerdale returns on Thursday 17 August at 8pm. Corrie airs half an hour later at 8:30pm.

In Emmerdale, vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) attempts to comfort a grieving Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler), while Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) confronts Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) about his plans to hold a private funeral for the late Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley).

Meanwhile, over on Coronation Street, Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) erratic behaviour arouses concern with husband David (Jack P Shepherd) amid sister Jodie Ramsey's (Olivia Frances Brown) meddling.

After their fling, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) encourages Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) to pursue a romance with Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott), and Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) begs for son Tyrone Dobbs's (Alan Halsall) forgiveness after making a misguided comment about domestic abuse.

Elsewhere, Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) harbours her reservations about Marco Rhodes (Will Teasdale).

Emmerdale usually airs weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street usually airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.
