Gian Piero Gasperini has revealed that Roma’s plan was to win the Scudetto within three years, and says he would not object to getting there early.
Speaking to the Corriere della Sera, the Giallorossi coach was speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to Como, with his side level on 13 points with Inter and Lazio at the top of Serie A after five rounds.
“Our plan was to get there in three years. We wouldn’t mind getting there sooner, but we’re aware the road is long. In football there are no straight roads or clear-cut paths. There will be ups and downs, and if we manage to handle them, who knows…”

Roma coach Gasperini on Atalanta return: ‘I haven’t sold the house’
This is Gasperini’s second season in Rome. He arrived in the summer of 2025 after nine years at Atalanta, where he turned the Bergamo club into a regular Champions League side and won the 2024 Europa League.
Roma have not won the title since 2001. Donyell Malen, who leads the Serie A scoring charts with six goals, has spearheaded a strong start, and a win at Como would be Gasperini’s 300th in Serie A.
Asked whether he could one day return to Bergamo, he left the door open: “Who can rule it out? One thing’s for sure: I haven’t sold the house.”
Atalanta are now coached by Maurizio Sarri and sit 11th after three straight defeats.
