A 2001 PlayStation 2 Classic Returns On PS5 As Free Download

There's no doubt that the PlayStation 2's era of prominence was one of the most significant in video games as a whole, and there's a reason that it remains the best-selling console of all-time. Along that journey, we got some genuinely spectacular games, and it laid the foundations for a lot of the series that remain iconic for Sony today.

God of War, Ratchet & Clank, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, and Jak and Daxter all came along in the early years of the console's period of relevance, and most of those are still going strong (with others rumored to return). Now, one of the series that also served as an absolute backbone to the hardware offering as a whole is about to return, and it's going to look a whole load better than it did the first time around.

Koei Tecmo

In case you missed its initial announcement, Koei Tecmo confirmed the upcoming release of DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Complete Edition Remastered, which is set to drop in less than a week at the time of writing, on October 1. As the name suggests, it's a return for the third game in the series, with fully updated visuals and plenty of new bells and whistles for the modern audience.

In letting fans know a little about what they can expect from this new run out for the game, the publisher shared the following description:

"Play as more than 40 different officers in the world of the Three Kingdoms, taking on thrilling and tactical battles of 1 vs. 1,000 on vast battlefields. "DYNASTY WARRIORS 3" was the first game in the "DYNASTY WARRIORS" series to feature mechanics that would become a mainstay for the series, such as True Musou Attacks, two-player simultaneous play, and the officer development system. It was also the first game in the series to sell more than one million copies.

"The "DYNASTY WARRIORS 3: Xtreme Legends" expansion featured new stories for seven officers, including Lu Bu, Meng Huo, and Yuan Shao, as well as bodyguard customization, new weapons, and four types of challenge modes, providing even more gameplay to enjoy."

From a technical perspective, there are plenty of other notable upgrades including support for HDR, ultrawide monitors, upscaling and 4K Ultra HD, all under the assumption that the hardware you're running can handle it.

Koei Tecmo

Given that we are very much in an era where remasters and remakes seem to be the order of the day overall, don't be surprised to see more efforts from the Dynasty Warriors series if this one does well commercially. It's not like they don't have plenty of options to choose from, and given that the development cycle for this one appears to have been relatively short, it could also enable them to get plenty of games into fan hands in relatively short order.
